MR. McCLELLAN: Let me finish. I mean, because you brought up an important issue. Success in Iraq is critical to our own security. A free Iraq will be a partner in the war on terrorism. A free Iraq will help inspire reformers in the broader Middle East, particularly in areas like Iran. A free Iraq will not be a safe haven from which terrorists can plan and plot attacks against the United States or against the civilized world.I don't know about you, but spreading freedom and democracy by osmosis across borders doesn't seem to be the way it happens to me. I could be wrong, but mainly, if you look at how freedom and democracy was/is won, it's through long, bloody, struggles.

Scotty Gets Off Easy Today
Only one interesting bit to present from today's Whitehouse press conference. Very different from yesterday where Scotty was smacked over the head with several difficult questions that received nary an answer. Today, my question to the blogisphere is this: Do you agree or disagree with Scotty? Explain in a comment to this post:

They always mention how long it took our country to figure out our democracy etc. But they fail to mention that the new Americans wanted to do it, we didn't have another country forcing us to do it. We fought for our own freedom, some other country didn't make us do it. And I believe that is the difference.
As for how to spread freedom, well you gotta get a freedom sprinkler and shake a little here and a little there. You really can't shoot it out of a gun.
Democracy is inevitable in our information age, which makes what Bush has done none only criminal, but stupid. The internet and the free-flow of information will eventually democratize the entire planet. When people find out somebody has it better than them on the other side of the hill, they will demand change. And nobody can stop the net. Not even the Chinese.
