Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.Just curious, what are you doing today to celebrate women?

International Women's Day
Let's hope Margaret Mead is still right - because we are in dire need of a regime change here at home that will do wonders to improve homeland security

This is selfish, I know. Today I'm going to be sweet to myself and treat myself as nicely as others treat me.
I wrote and posted by hell raising thoughts on the SD abortion shit and now the rest of the day is just for me.
Doing what I have done just about every other day for the past three-plus years: Taking care of my 88 year old mother, responding emphatically to various forums, and boycotting botox. ;0)
Satire. So what else is new?
Thanks for posting on Women....(((((( )))))) ...Hugs for doing that....
Margaret Mead- BEST BEST QUOTE ;-)

and pregnent, mouthes sewn shut, trapped in our homes baking his ass cookies]]]
Thanks everyone for commenting on this post. There is an astonishing void of activity in our town to celebrate the IWD.
As I was trotting the kids around to one of the neighborhood playgrounds this AM, I noticed that I was the only father on the playground - subsequently, when I went to try to use the restroom, I found only the women's room unlocked. When I asked an attendent if they could unlock the gents, I said, "Hey, if you are doing this for International Women's Day, I understand." She let me in the gents. I said thanks, but we both had a laugh.
I suppose the way I celebrated IWD is by doing "women's" work. Along with the rest of them - most people (and women in particular) don't get any kind of break at all in our country for this holiday - Why is that? Instead, they get hosed on by the Presidet - see my post from yesterday:

I'm just now making the rounds and just heard about it over at the Fat Lady, and now here. Bizarre that's it's over now and I didn't even know about it. Didn't see a thing in the NYT about it. Nowhere else either until now. Anyway...I've been saying it for years: let the women take over.
'spike, forgive me, but...I did know, until this post, that you were a dad! I have been operating under the false idea that you were a woman.
Interesting. Now we shall see if it changes my response to you at all. Probably we won't be cofee-klatching over menopause sypmtoms!
Kind of funny, huh?
Isa,
You have got to love the internet,no? I often get gender and orientations confused as you never do look at the person square in the eye to sum them up, no do you.:-)
Nope - won't be doing the menopuase thing - thankfully. But, I have been a stay at home father for almost four years now - which many, many fathers miss out tremendously in those formative years. I win. They can keep the fancy cars and airline treks to exotic desitantions for two weeks out of the year. I know my children.
Blog on Sister, Blog on.
Excellent, 'spike! My beloved spouse used to occasionally remark that if I had the job bringing home the bulk of our bacon, he'd quit, stay home with the kid, and join the Junior League! Yick to the latter. I think they're chockful of GOP matrons.
Anyway, I'm sure your kids love it.
