Kicking It

Well, if we can admit that a GI kicked the Koran, why can't we own up to the flushing?

It still doesn't matter. Kicking a book does not hurt the ideas therein. Sure, it's disrespectful, but Christians have been disrespecting other people's faiths for a long time. Not new news.

Sad thing about the whole charade is that the damage is already done. The USA reputation in non-christian societies has to be at an all time low, and it was already in the basement to begin with.

Slice:

WASHINGTON - The Pentagon on Friday released new details about mishandling of the Quran at the Guantanamo Bay prison for terror suspects, confirming that a soldier deliberately kicked the Muslim holy book and that an interrogator stepped on a Quran and was later fired for "a pattern of unacceptable behavior."

In other confirmed incidents, a guard's urine came through an air vent and splashed on a detainee and his Quran; water balloons thrown by prison guards caused an unspecified number of Qurans to get wet; and in a confirmed but ambiguous case, a two-word obscenity was written in English on the inside cover of a Quran.

What I don't understand with this case is, when did respect for religious beliefs in general become a requirement to practice those beliefs?

If Muslims want to recognize the pages and cover of the Holy Qur'an every bit as important spiritually as the teachings within, that is fine.

However, their doctrine shouldn't extend beyond the confinces of their own membership. Especially when Muslim extremists don't seem to see a problem with destroying copies of their own holy book while boming Mosques.

To me this is nothing but Moslems playing to a U.S. and International press that is all too willing to fan the flames.

Is Islam really that fragile?

Why is the US government pandering to patent nonsense, the worship of multitudinous physical objects.

Hamid Karzai said that the anti-US demonstrations in Afghanistan were motivated by other issues, not the supposed treatment of the Koran at Gitmo mentioned in the Newsweek report. Which is to say that Moslems aren't really as silly as the Administration would make them out to be.

Bush and his ''disassemblers.'' First the Administration blasts Newsweek, then they find mud on their skirts. Trapped by their own version of reality. It will be interesting to see how they let themselves off the hook.

Dear Anon,

You win the word of the day award. Multitudinous. Very nice. You do have a good point. I agree. I don't think that Muslums would ram a plane into a building simply becuase a GI flushed, kicked, spindled or mutilated the Qur'an. There are larger issues at work here, and certainly, Muslims are not as dumb as the President would have you think he is.
