God, Guts and Guns

I was driving my son to pre-school the other day and noticed a painted on tag line on the back end of a contractor's truck. This was no bumper sticker. It was an honest to goodness slogan posted across the back bumper - as if it were part of their company signage - and I quote:

"God, Guts, and Guns
Keep America Free"

...humm, as well as death, destruction, and maming innocent civilians as collateral damage.

Doing a google search on this slogan, you find that these folks are not alone. And, you can get it engraved on your belt buckle.

Aparently, there is a long history of people arguing about this slogan, willing to piss off and offend all manner of individual, even working to stifle one person's first amendment rights in order to prop up their own.

The slogan is true though.

That's a clear example of the disgusting and stupid attitude some Americans are proud to have. Fortunately the whole World (including lots of Americans) know that it's as stupid as dangerous.

Btw, I don't know a God that would call humans to use weaponry against our equals just to protect our land free.

To disagree respectfully.

God part aside, I see a point in this signage.

Guns are the great equalizer. You take an old granny out on the prairie versus a door-to-door bandit. Granny has no chance. Put a shotgun in her hand, and even if he's armed, it's whoever aims and shoots best.

Without guts, Granny wouldn't have been on the prairie at all.

Whether or not you approve of the American way - pioneering vs. land grabbing - this "guts and guns" thing is what has made America what it is.

''All power grows out of the barrel of a gun.'' - Mao.

This is why one should expect civil war in Iraq after the January 30 election. The only Iraqis who appear to be willing to fight are the Sunnis, many of whom were supporters of the Ba'athist secular government. They had no respect for the Shiia religious types before the US invasion. They haven't had any reason to generate any respect for the Shiia since.

The Shiia expect power to fall to them like an overripe plum via the elections. Power doesn't accrue that way. See Mao.
