Amnesty International Must Have Hit on some Truth

The big Dick replies first, then W, himself - quick to dismiss the report from Amnesty International. If the AI report is getting such play in the W, Rove and Co, they must have struck a nerve. It wouldn't require a response if nothing was amiss.

I'm not as upset about this quick denial as others. Mainly, I am not surprised at all. This is typical behavior for W, Rove and co and I am getting quite used to it.

Of course the folks reporting the atrocities are scathing toward the administration, and , as W said "hate America." If you were tortured for no reason and held without any kind of due process simply becuase your last name was arabic, don't you think you would present your story in a pissed off manner?

Here's a slice from the actual report, which you can read and assess for yourself should you be determined:

Hundreds of detainees continued to be held without charge or trial at the US naval base in Guantánamo Bay, Cuba. Thousands of people were detained during US military and security operations in Iraq and Afghanistan and routinely denied access to their families and lawyers.

Military investigations were initiated or conducted into allegations of torture and ill-treatment of detainees by US personnel in Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq and into reports of deaths in custody and ill-treatment by US forces elsewhere in Iraq, and in Afghanistan and Guantánamo. Evidence came to light that the US administration had sanctioned interrogation techniques that violated the UN Convention against Torture. Pre-trial military commission hearings opened in Guantánamo but were suspended pending a US court ruling.

Shea,

Okay, so I am a bit pissed. It saddens me that I have become numb to the atrocities that this administration leads us towards such that the bar for humane and ethical behavior are so low that I am not surprised by this. Okay, so now I am outraged! Vote the bastards out!

It's true. They're like some sort of movie villain, they keep coming back to do more evil.

Amnesty International has always been anti America. Sure, they will go into every slime hole and scream about human rights, but they out and out refused to even look into the Vietnam POW/MIA question.

They claim to be for "human rights", but apparently our missing and captured in Southeast Asia just weren't "human" enough for them.

Vietnam POW/MIA's a non-issue

There's always someone who doesn't get the word and insists on keep an issue that has been thoroughly investigated and put to bed, alive. There are no Vietnam POW/MIAs. Everyone has been accounted for.

The Facts:

All U.S. POWs captured during the Vietnam War were released, either at Operation Homecoming (spring, 1973) or earlier.

The only men captured and not released are 113 who died in captivity; their identities and the circumstances of their deaths are known; some of their remains have been recovered/returned.

No U. S. prisoners of war have been abandoned by the U. S. government.

No U.S POWs remained in captivity after the conclusion of Operation Homecoming.

There is no conspiracy within the U. S. government to conceal the abandonment of prisoners of war (who were not abandoned in the first place).

No U.S. POWs from Indochina were taken to the Soviet Union, China, or any other third country.

The U.S. government has been -- since well before the end of the Vietnam War -- exerting all possible efforts to recover or account for missing men. That effort continues today and is unprecedented in the history of warfare.
