Slipping Congressional Standards

You have got to love the Brits as they are used to defending themselves to a demanding press (the BBC doesn't let you off the hook like the American Media Outlets). Not only that, but they don't bend over or plead the fifth like many politicos in our country.

Slice:

Galloway's appearance was an odd spectacle on Capitol Hill: A legislator from a friendly nation, voluntarily testifying under oath, without immunity, at a combative congressional hearing where neither side showed much pretense of diplomatic niceties.

"Now, I know that standards have slipped over the last few years in Washington, but for a lawyer, you're remarkably cavalier with any idea of justice," Galloway told Coleman, chairman of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs investigation subcommittee.

He then accused Coleman of maligning his name before giving him a chance to defend himself and of using the oil-for-food investigation to hide the failures of U.S. policies in Iraq.

"Senator, this is the mother of all smoke screens," he said.

Dear Brad,

Do you know Galloway personnally or are you simply pulling this assumption out of your...well, out of thin air? Where's the proof that backs up your conclusion?

It's about time someone put these idiots in their place. Galloway deserves a knighthood for taking some of the hot air out of these popous "lawmakers".

And while he's certainly right that standards have slipped in Washington, they're not all that great in Downing Steet either. But that is an argument for another day.

Downing Street and Pennsylvania Avenue are indeed peas in a pod with respect to standards - however I do find British candor, especially in this case- to be quite refreshing. I have listened to some of the Brits' more argumentative sessions on NPR and they are far more demanding of accountability there.

Hey, if Schwarzenegger can become governor, can't Galloway become president?
