"After 9/11, we had to show how committed we were by spending hugely greater amounts of money than ever before, as rapidly as possible. That brought us what we might expect, which is some expensive mistakes. This has been the difficult learning curve of the new discipline known as homeland security." REP. CHRISTOPHER COX, a California Republican who is the chairman of the Homeland Security Committee.

How come our grand and glorious leaders are dumb enough to make those mistakes, when we know better? Does that mean we should question authority!?
False positives, false negatives
Where is Bill Frist on this? The doctor should have known that there are few good tests for anything. The New York Times article only mentions false positives, but no one is even looking for false negatives.
They admit that a well-shielded nuke would get through. Why bother looking if you know in advance that you're not going to find it?
As was said 30 years ago, the easiest way to get a nuclear weapon into this country is to put it in a bale of marijuana. If we can't stop tons of marijuana, coke and heroin, what makes Congress think Homeland Security will work?
Spending money on useless boondoggles benefits whom? No one is made safer. We are ruled by fools.
